Stardew Valley Mystery Boxes Guide

Mystery Boxes guide for Stardew Valley 1.6 unlocks, Clint opening rules, normal and Golden Mystery Box sources, Book of Mysteries, Prize Tickets, Foraging Mastery, Raccoon Wife trades, reward pools, and late-game loot routing.

Quick facts

Mystery Boxes unlock after 50 days in the valley or after collecting the second Prize Ticket from the billboard route.
Clint opens Mystery Boxes and Golden Mystery Boxes for 25g each, and Geode Crushers cannot open them.
Golden Mystery Boxes unlock through Foraging Mastery and are tied to late-game rewards and Raccoon Wife trades.

Unlock and open

Mystery Boxes are a 1.6 loot layer that turns ordinary activities into surprise supply routes after Mr. Qi's unlock. They stay tied to the Blacksmith, so the clean habit is to bank boxes and open them during tool, geode, and museum loops.

  • Use the 50-day timer or second Prize Ticket route as the unlock checkpoint.
  • Open boxes at Clint for 25g each and do not route them through Geode Crushers.
  • Read the first Book of Mysteries before treating later copies as trade stock.

Normal versus Golden

Normal boxes are useful for early and mid-game supplies, books, seeds, and random progression help. Golden boxes become more attractive after Foraging Mastery because their pool supports rare late-game prizes and Raccoon conversion choices.

  • Farm ordinary boxes through fishing, mining, combat, artifact spots, trees, events, and Prize Machine routes.
  • After Foraging Mastery, expect some ordinary box attempts to become Golden Mystery Box attempts.
  • Compare opening Golden Mystery Boxes with saving 20 for Magic Rock Candy at the Raccoon Wife shop.
