Stardew Valley Big Chests and Storage

Big Chests guide for Big Chest, Big Stone Chest, Stone Chest, 70-slot storage, Carpenter's Shop recipe, Dwarf recipe, Robin's Resource Rush, in-place upgrades, color coding, sheds, and farm storage layouts.

Quick facts

Big Chest and Big Stone Chest store 70 different item types, almost doubling the 36-slot capacity of regular and stone chests.
Big Chest recipe comes from the Carpenter's Shop; Big Stone Chest requires the Stone Chest route and the Dwarf recipe.
Big chests can replace existing regular or stone chests while preserving contents and dropping the old chest.

Upgrade the busy chests first

Big storage is most valuable where item diversity is already making daily work slower: farm entry, mines kits, fishing stock, bundle prep, machines, and request storage.

  • Upgrade crowded regular chests in place instead of emptying them manually.
  • Use Big Chests near crop, fish, animal, and artisan processing lanes.
  • Use Big Stone Chests when Stone is abundant and the Dwarf recipe route is ready.

Build storage as a route

The best storage layout reflects how the farm moves. Color coding, sheds, and chest placement should reduce walking and decisions, not merely increase total capacity.

  • Color-code by workflow such as crops, mining, gifts, cooking, requests, and Ginger Island.
  • Put high-use chests near machines, shipping bins, warp points, and farm entrances.
  • Plan Wood, Copper Bars, and Stone around buildings and machines before mass crafting.
