Stardew Valley Skull Cavern Guide

Skull Cavern guide for Desert access, Skull Key, bombs, staircases, Jade trading, luck days, iridium routes, treasure rooms, floor 100, Qi quests, and dangerous mode.

Quick facts

Skull Cavern is in Calico Desert and requires the Skull Key from the bottom of The Mines.
Unlike The Mines, Skull Cavern has no elevator; every visit starts again from floor 1.
Luck, bombs, staircases, shafts, and early Desert arrival matter more than clearing every shallow floor.

Build the run before entering

Skull Cavern rewards preparation. A strong run starts with Bus access, Skull Key, healing food, bombs, stairs, speed, and an exit plan.

  • Use Desert Warp Totem or Desert Obelisk when a serious run needs extra morning hours.
  • Trade Jade for Staircases on Sundays to create a reliable skip-floor economy.
  • Bring bombs for ore clusters and Mummies instead of spending the whole day swinging a pickaxe.

Descend first, farm later

Iridium and rare loot improve as the run gets deeper, so shallow-floor perfectionism usually costs more than it earns.

  • Take shafts when health allows because they save valuable time.
  • Use staircases on slow layouts, infested floors, and dangerous monster pressure.
  • Treat Qi challenge weeks and dangerous mode as late-game routes with stronger supply requirements.
